The Parramatta Play Project is a collaborative, place-based playwriting project designed to invite artists to celebrate and reflect upon one of Australia's most historically significant and growing cities.
Developed in partnership with Baramadagal Knowledge Holders, local cultural organisations and heritage experts, The Parramatta Play Project centres Western Sydney artists and writers to create new work.
The Project includes the creation of a new full-length work by seven professional writers, free workshop programs for students, emerging/early career writers, and local community members, free public readings and conversations with the artists.

The Parramatta Play Project Workshop is a professional development opportunity for eight emerging/early-career Western Sydney playwrights to develop a collaborative new play, based in Parramatta.
Through a series of timed writing exercises, character development activities, collaborative scene-making and group discussions, writers will generate material that will be woven together into a new theatrical work inspired by the City of Parramatta.
Proudly supported by The NSW Government through Create NSW, The Parramatta Play Project Workshop is free for the selected participants.
Up to 8 emerging/early-career refers to writers (over 18 years of age) with a professional intent for their writing in the long term.
The Workshops will be held in various locations in the Parramatta local government area including a range of buildings, sites and public spaces.
Selected Playwrights are asked their preference for the workshops (a total of 21 hours) across 3 days (either Saturdays or Sundays) in August.
Applications are now open for the emerging/early career workshop.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body, and is proudly supported by The NSW Government through Create NSW.
